Overview
Liviu Vlad Hall was inaugurated on February 28, 2020. It houses a permanent exhibition of three collections donated by Professor Liviu Vlad to Babeș-Bolyai University. These include selected works from the three exhibitions that the artist displayed at the Paul Sima Gallery of Babeș-Bolyai University. Liviu Vlad was born on January 15, 1946, in Cluj-Napoca, where he attended primary and secondary school, followed by higher education. Although his inclination towards the visual arts was evident from childhood, he pursued a career as a surgeon. Over the years, he pursued both his professional and artistic careers in parallel, about which he said:
“Both activities have brought me satisfaction, and I cannot reproach either of them.”
Permanent exhibition
The permanent exhibition at Liviu Vlad Hall comprises 48 works from the three collections donated to our university by artist Liviu Vlad.
Collections
- Venetian Sequences Collection
The first collection, Venetian Sequences, comprises six graphic and painted works that invite the viewer to discover the beauty and mystery of the city of water, with its religious monuments, decorative sculptures, lively squares, and famous bridges.
- Transylvania Vetera Collection
The exhibition space also features 26 paintings from the 38 works that make up the Transylvania Vetera Collection. These works of art showcase the splendor and diversity of Transylvania’s cultural heritage, featuring its wooden churches and medieval fortresses. The watercolors capture the nuances and details of the architecture and landscapes of this region rich in history and tradition.
- Alma Mater Napocensis Collection
The third collection, entitled Alma Mater Napocensis, is dedicated to the architectural heritage of Babeș-Bolyai University, as a tribute to it on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Romanian higher education in Cluj.
